Legendary XIX century sailing vessel has burned down in London
On Monday XIX century sailing vessel of Cutty Sark, the unique tea clipper, which has remained in the world, has been strongly damaged by fire.
According to the messages of city fire service, the 138-year-old clipper, located in special dock near Thames in the London’s Greenwich area, has been entirely captured by the flame. Inhabitants of adjoining to a place of a fire of apartment houses have been evacuated because of fears of explosion as firemen have found out unknown cylinders in which there could be a gas onboard.
On struggle against a fire which has begun about 5 o’clock in the morning, eight fire brigades have come. Now police and firemen study the records of local chambers of video observation and are trying to find out the reason of the fire.
Richard Doughty, chief executive of the Cutty Sark Trust- the organization, engaged in operation and restoration of the clipper- has told that firemen have named the fire suspicious. He is afraid, that much will be irrevocably lost because of a fire.
Richard Doughty has also added that the peculiarity of Feature Cutty Sark was in its wooden bars and an iron skeleton and the vessel has been sailed even in the seas of southern China. And everything that has happened to it is an improbable shock.
Cutty Sark - is one of the most popular tourist sights of London, which has been closed for public and was on restoration.
