Smoking in Singapore will be very expensive

Singapore authorities have entered strict laws against contraband of cigarettes. Since January, 1st, 2009, any being in the country cigarette should have special marks SDPC (Singapore Duty-Paid Cigarettes) on the filter. Owners of the cigarettes, which are not having such marks, will be fined for 500 Singapore dollars ($345) for a pack.
Tourists, importing cigarettes for the personal use, should pay at customs the duty in 7,04 Singapore dollars ($5) for a pack and then to keep the customs receipt. In the Singapore the price of legal pack of cigarettes starts from 12 Singapore dollars ($8). However, up to 20 % of cigarettes used in the country, are imported illegally. The new law, as well as the high price of legal cigarettes, among other has for an object to lower number of smokers. In the country it is forbidden to smoke practically in all public places, including bars and entertaining institutions.
