UNESCO: London sights can get into the black list
The organization on protection of the world cultural heritage of UNESCO has informed that a number of the London sights can get in the list of monuments, which are under threat of disappearance. The matter is that skyscrapers spoil historic image of the city.
So, 50-storeyed skyscraper Beetham Tower and 47-storeyed tower Doon Street tower negatively influence Westminster Abbey and Westminster Palace. The project of glass skyscraper Shard beside the well-known London Bridge will deform the well-known Tower.
In last report UNESCO representatives express disappointment, that local authorities have neglected the offer of the organization on restriction of construction in Westminster area with the purpose of historical buildings preservation.
The head of town-planning committee of the country has declared, that he agrees with fears of UNESCO, however, despite of appeals of the organization and protests of city dwellers, the set of projects of high-altitude buildings have already passed the coordination of some city instances and Ken Livingstone - former mayor of the British capital .
