Vegetarian festival is being held in Thailand

From October, 10 till October, 19th Vegetarian festival is being held on the Thai island Phuket.
The festival refers to vegetarian because during its celebrating it is forbidden to use meat in food. Other carnal pleasures, including sex and alcohol, are also forbidden.
Among “sights” of festival it is necessary to allocate participants who pierce their cheeks with iron sticks, sabers, spears and other subjects.
They, without any narcosis, penetrate every possible subject through a mouth and then some hours per such kind go a procession on heat. All this is done in order to cajole gods for the nearest year.
In the evening the same “penetrated” participants will run barefoot on the heated coals.
The holiday has the Chinese roots and it is celebrated by Phuket inhabitants, coming mostly from China. Today the vegetarian festival is one of the largest tourist sights of island.
