The longest ground tunnel in the world
In Switzerland the longest railway tunnel in the world, which will connect Northern and Southern Europe, has been opened. The tunnel has been constructed for almost eight years.
According to Associated Press, the length of the tunnel makes 34,6 kilometers. Its opening will allow reaching from Germany to Italy in two hours instead of 35. The cost of works has made about 4,3 billion Swiss francs.
The tunnel will take the third place on length in the world. First two tunnels divide a underwater tunnel in Japan and a tunnel, connecting England and France.
