Smoking has been forbidden in bars and restaurants of Finland

In Finland government has forbidden smoking in the majority of restaurants and bars. The partial interdiction, which has come into force today, resolves smoking only in the closed premises in which the meal and drinks are not served, and also on terraces on open air. Besides more than 100 large bars, the cafes and restaurants have been given a transition period of two years, after which smoking in them will be allowed only in specially allocated premises, which area should not exceed the area of territory, on which smoking is forbidden.
It is worth of mentioning that from the moment of prohibition of smoking on a workplace (in 1995), the quantity of restrictions on the use of tobacco production in Finland has considerably increased. Smoking was forbidden both in public buildings and on transport. The law accepted in the country in 2000, characterizes nicotine as “carcinogenic, hazardous to health substance”.
Ireland was the first European country, which has forbidden smoking in public places in March 2004. Norway, Italy, Sweden and some other countries have followed its example. Great Britain, Denmark, France and Greece are also planning to enter similar restrictions on the use of tobacco production in public places.
